Prof. M. Thanihaichelvan of the Department of Physics Wins the CVCD Award for Most Outstanding Young Researcher 2024

The Department of Physics, University of Jaffna, proudly announces that Prof. M. Thanihaichelvan has been awarded the prestigious Most Outstanding Young Researcher Award in Natural Sciences at the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors (CVCD) Excellence Awards 2024. The formal award ceremony took place on August 2, 2025, at the Senate House, University of Colombo.

The CVCD Excellence Award is widely recognized as one of the highest academic and research honors in Sri Lanka. Conferred biennially, the award celebrates transformative achievements in research and innovation within the state university system. Awardees are selected through a rigorous evaluation process by an expert panel of distinguished academics, with final conferments approved by the CVCD.

This recognition highlights Prof. Thanihaichelvan’s exceptional scholarly contributions and research leadership. It adds to an impressive list of national honors he has received, including, Presidential Award for Scientific Publication, National Research Council (NRC) Merit Award and Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees (SUSRED) Award (National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka)
